[C]umbria County Council highways teams responded to approximately 20 separate incidents on Cumbria’s roads overnight caused by Storm Eleanor and a Spring high tide on coastal routes.
Highways staff cleared a number of roads in the county which had become blocked because of tidal flooding or fallen trees.
A total of seven roads in Cumbria remain closed this morning because of overnight storm debris and/or flood water:
- Rockcliffe road, Rockcliffe, near River Esk at Boat House – river water flooding section of road.
- A592 Rayrigg Road, Windermere – fallen tree blocking road
- B5300 Dubmill Point – closed due to coastal flooding
- U7166 Oulton nearr Village Hall – tree down blocking road
- C2052 Skinburness Road, Silloth – tidal flooding
- B5307 Angerton House (West of Kirkbride) – tidal flooding
- U4004 Swallow Hill to Pica – tree down blocking road
The council is working hard to clear debris and make these roads safe and will reopen them as soon as possible.
The B5300 at Dubmill Point was closed as a precaution on Tuesday night and remains closed because of the amount of coastal debris washed up by the high tide – pictures of the road are available to download from links below. The next high tide is due around midday and the council will try to reopen this road later today.
Drivers are asked to avoid low lying coastal roads during times of high tides.
The council cleared trees blown down by Storm Eleanor from a number of roads, including the road between Distington and Pica.
