[S]tanwix residents are being urged to support a week-long Great British Spring Clean campaign.

A comprehensive clean-up of the Stanwix area will be held between Monday 5 and Saturday, 10 March. The local community are being asked to lend a hand.

Volunteers who want to take an active part are being asked to take part in a litter-pick. This will be held on Saturday, 10 March. Anyone that wants to take part should meet at Stanwix Community Association Centre, Church Street, Stanwix at 10am. Refreshments will be provided. All litter-picking equipment will be supplied by the City Council.

Local community groups and schools have also been approached to see if they can lend their support.

Carlisle City Cllr Paul Nedved, Ward Councillor for Stanwix Urban, said: “This is the eighth year a Big Tidy Up has been held in Stanwix. It is a spring centrepiece in our community effort to assist in combatting the twin blights of litter and dog fouling with the support of residents, community groups and the City Council. This year we want to support the City Council’s plastic free Carlisle campaign – in addition to collecting litter, we will also be encouraging residents and school children to recycle and reduce their use of plastics.”

Stanwix Big Tidy will be joining forces with Keep Britain Tidy in their national “The Great British Spring Clean” in March. The campaign aims to inspire more people from community and voluntary groups, clubs, businesses across the country to get active and help clean up their neighbourhood.

Stanwix in Bloom are finalists in this year’s Britain in Bloom. Community participation and environmental responsibility are key parts of the campaign. Judging will take place this summer.
