[I]n celebration and to promote animal health and responsible pet ownership, Oak Tree Animals’ Charity has partnered with four local veterinary practices: Ashlea Vets, Eden Vets, Paragon Vets and The Green Vets to offer reduced neutering fees for World Spay Day on 27th February.

In 2017, Oak Tree Animals’ Charity helped over 400 cats in our region, including unwanted pets and feral cats.

Becky Lowis, Community Engagement Supervisor explains “By promoting neutering for World Spay Day and providing low-cost neutering vouchers, Oak Tree and our partner vets are helping to reduce the number of unwanted stray cats and kittens in our community. Cats can become pregnant from four months of age, with an un-neutered female cat able to be responsible for up to 20,000 descendants in just 6 years. Therefore timely neutering really is key.”

She continues, “We often speak with pet owners looking to have their pet neutered but may be struggling financially therefore are unable to cover the costs. World Spay Day allows us to support those individuals, making neutering accessible to all”.

Top reasons to neuter your cat:

  • Neutered cats are less likely to be exposed to serious diseases such as FIV and FeLV.
  • Neutering prevents unwanted anti-social behaviour such as wailing and calling when in season and spraying
  • Neutering may help prevent certain cancers in cats.
  • Pregnancy and nurturing kittens are physically demanding and can harm the mother.
  • Neutering reduces roaming as hormones and instincts are lessened to find a mate.
  • By neutering your cat, you are playing a vital role to prevent unwanted kittens, ensuring that all cats have a loving home to call their own.
