Giant Kendal Castle Sportive Lowther Castle start and finish

[G]iant Kendal Bike Shop have teamed up with Lowther Castle to host the Giant Kendal – Castle Sportive. Offering cyclists the choice of two routes exploring the stunning Cumbrian countryside with fantastic views starting and finishing with a ride through the impressive castle grounds.

Lowther Castle sits within over 130 acres of hidden gardens, woodland and breathtaking views and sets the scene for what will be a stunning cycle sportive.

The event takes places on Sunday 3rd June when riders will set off from Lowther Castle on either the 100km route which includes a feature climb at Watermillock, near Ullswater, or the shorter but equally spectacular 50km ride which will test the legs with over 2600ft of climbing. There will also be a number of groups led by the Giant Kendal Team which anyone is welcome to join if they want a more sociable day out and don’t want to ride on their own.

Downhill into Shap

Giant Kendal and Lowther Castle are keen to encourage more people to get out on their bikes and Chris Dixon, owner of Giant Kendal Bike Shop, sees the sportive as a great opportunity to build on the already strong cycling community within the area and comments, ‘We are so lucky to have such great riding on our doorstep and having the event at Lowther Castle really adds the ‘wow’ factor. Both routes explore some beautiful areas of Cumbria on quiet roads showcasing the fantastic cycling we have here without riding up anything too epic so it’s manageable for the majority of cyclists.’

Anyone wanting to enter the event can get more details from www.giant-kendal.co.uk/localevents or by emailing events@giant-kendal.co.uk There is also discounted entry for groups of five or more to encourage people to have a great day out riding together.
