[E]ighteen-year-old Megan-Jessica, along with the other finalists, are raising money for the Miss Cumbria chosen charity, Variety.

Variety, the Children’s Charity, supports children and young people throughout the UK who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged. In supporting this cause, Megan-Jessica said: “I really wanted to help the Variety charities support of children who are not as fortunate as I have been. Hopefully the money I raise will go a small way to making some child’s life a little better.”

Megan-Jessica, from Workington, has gone above and beyond her duties and been using her time as a Miss Cumbria Finalist to support and promote the fantastic work the emergency services do in our area.

She has visited HM Coastguard, the Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service and each have been fantastically responsive to her, making some incredible memories and fabulous friends. For her next engagement she will be visiting the RNLI Workington on the 8th April and is planning on visiting the Mountain Rescue at a future date to be arranged. At each of these visits she has been collecting information leaflets which she will be taking into local schools to give out on their behalf.

As part of her support in the community, she recently helpedat the Monkray Court St. Patrick’s Day party where sheserved food and drinks to the elderly residents to help them celebrate.

Megan-Jessica has organised two charity events to support Variety. The first is a Pie and Pea supper on Friday 20th April 6:30-9:30pm at the Masonic Hall Workington (£4 ticket), the second an afternoon tea on Sunday 22nd April 1:30-4:30pm,also at the Masonic Hall (£8 per ticket). She is also in the process of organising a sponsored truck pull for her and many of the other Miss Cumbria finalists.
