Margaret Howlett

[A] woman who was killed in Rochdale has been named.

At around 8am on Thursday 12 April 2018, a report was made at Rochdale Police Station about concerns for the welfare of a woman.

Officers attended an address on Alexander Street and found the body of a woman who has since been formally identified as 63-year-old Margaret Howlett.

A post mortem took place yesterday which revealed that Margaret had sadly died from multiple stab wounds.

A 58-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in hospital.

Detective Inspector Dave Meeney, of GMP’s Major Incident team, said: “Maragret’s family are being supported by specially trained officers as they come to terms with the loss of their mum, sister and friend.

“Our investigation into how she lost her life continues and we will do all we can to give Margaret’s family the answers to the questions they have at this difficult time.

“It’s vital that we hear from people in the local area who saw anything that stood out from the ordinary, as it could help us to piece together how this tragic incident happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact GMP on 0161 856 9171 quoting incident number 410 of 12/04/18. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
