[T]he Lake District National Park announces exciting plans to open a new restaurant in Brockhole House – the striking white Arts and Crafts house gracefully overlooking Windermere set in stunning 30-acre grounds.

The Gaddum Restaurant, named after its former Victorian owner, William Gaddum, will open on Friday 27 April as part of the continuing development of the Brockhole estate – Windermere’s popular visitor attraction.

Kerry Powell, LDNP Director of Communications and Resources said: “The Lake District National Park value and recognise the historic importance of the iconic white house and has long had an ambition to redevelop the property and reawaken this Arts and Crafts jewel.

“The recent designation of the National Park as a UNESCO World Heritage Site has encouraged us to look more closely at the opportunities the house offers and how we might restore it to its former glory.

“The development of The Gaddum Restaurant continues a wider re-development scheme for the estate. The opening of The Gaddum Gallery last year and the recent upgrade to the children’s play area widens Brockhole’s existing all-year round appeal to our many visitors.”

Sam Mason, General Manager of Brockhole said: “We have the perfect setting here for a very special restaurant – a unique house, sheltered terraces and beautiful gardens with access to the shore and jetty at Windermere. Sympathetic refurbishment has created three public spaces, The Garden Room, The Lounge and Bar and The Orangery. The Gaddum will bring a separate offer to Brockhole’s café which will continue to operate as usual. Visitors will enjoy a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, serving afternoon teas, with daytime and twilight dining, or perhaps, an after-work craft beer or glass of wine with friends on the terrace. We have a fabulous new team who are developing exciting menus which we look forward to introducing very soon.”
