Shoplifters banned from West Cumbria stores

Daniel Martin and Naomi Nicholson

[C]riminal Behaviour Orders have been secured against two prolific West Cumbrian shoplifters with the aim of protecting local businesses from their offending.

Daniel Martin, 27, of Peter Street, Whitehaven, was made subject of an indefinite order which prevents him from entering any premises which is a member of Shopwatch in Whitehaven, Copeland Rural or Workington.

The order was made on 12 May 2018 after Martin was convicted of shoplifting offences at court on 4 May 2018.

Naomi Nicholson, 32, of Windermere Road, Whitehaven, was made subject of a three-year order preventing her from entering any premises which is a member of the same three Shopwatch schemes.

Nicholson’s order was made on 4 May 2018 after she was convicted of stealing a bottle of whiskey from Tesco in Whitehaven.

Inspector Rachel Jones said: “We are pleased the court has agreed to these orders being put in place. The reason we seek Community Behaviour Orders is to offer some protection to local businesses which can be severely impacted by this type of offending and to increase police powers when dealing with this type of prolific offending behaviour.

“We would urge anyone who witnesses the terms of these orders, or any Criminal Behaviour Orders, being breached to contact police immediately so we can take action.”
