[C]OPELAND Council is supporting a free event at St Bees, especially for dogs and their owners.

The community dog walk event is on July 11, from 11am until 3pm, and follows a successful one at Haverigg beach.

It is run by the Turning Tides Partnership, of which Copeland Council is a member. The event is part of the LOVEmyBEACH campaign for clean, safe beaches and seas.

Dog owners will be able to chat to Copeland Council’s dog wardens, meet other owners and find out more about keeping beaches and seas clean.

The LOVEmyBEACH team have organised dog walks at noon and at 2pm, each lasting around an hour and covering about two miles of the stunning St Bees coastline.

A veterinary nurse from The Dogs Trust will attend the event to carry out free basic health checks, microchip and offer tips for happy, healthy dogs.

Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Customers and Communities, Coun Mark Holliday, said: “We have already hosted one of these events at Haverigg, and it was a great success. People are very keen to enjoy this landscape with their pets. We want them to continue to look after the beach and have healthy animals. This event is a great way for people to get together and share tips. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible there – along with their dogs.”

No appointment is needed  for the veterinary services – owners can drop in any time between 11am and 3pm. The dog walk also does not need to be booked – those taking part should meet at the grassed foreshore area near the public toilets.

Anyone interested can also see the event on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1980625035300896/

All dogs are welcome, but owners should arrive with their dog on a lead. For more information contact enquiries@lovemybeach.org.
