Art exhibition: Printing Nature

Unititled monoprint II by Vega Brennan

The wild and dramatic landscape of the North Pennines is inspiration behind the latest exhibition at the RSPB Geltsdale Gallery.

Vega Brennan’s Printing Nature show, which runs from Monday 5 November to Thursday 31 January, features artwork made using a variety of printmaking techniques that explore the landscape and its history.

Vega Brennan says:  “I used to live in West Yorkshire, at the southern end of the Pennines and it’s wonderful to be able to create a set of work for the wilder, northern end of the Pennines.  The remnants of its industrial past fascinate me, as do the ways that people now interact with the landscape.

Vega is based just outside Carlisle and has over 16 years’ experience of printmaking, as well as teaching art. She has an MA in the History of Printmaking and an MA in Fine Art and Education. She is a member of Cumbria Printmakers and runs Linden Print Studio, where she runs print making courses.

Vega Brennan is leading a print making workshop at the Geltsdale Gallery on Saturday 10 November.  The workshop costs £12.50 (RSPB members), £15 (non-members) and runs from 10am – 3pm. Booking is essential. Call 01697 746717 or email geltsdale@rspb.org.uk to book a place.

Printing Nature is part of Impressions of the Wild, a programme of six exhibitions at RSPB Geltsdale Gallery by local artists, celebrating the mysteries and wonders of the natural world.

The RSPB Geltsdale Gallery is open daily 9am to 5pm.
