Police are investigating a serious injury road traffic collision on the A5086 at Deanscales involving a car travelling towards Cockermouth and a car travelling towards Egremont.

The incident occurred on Monday 29th October at approximately 3:30pm.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The occupants of the Cockermouth bound car were a male aged 46 years and two children under 16 years.

“All are still in hospital in Newcastle where they are with other family members receiving treatment for their injuries.

“The driver of the other vehicle was a male aged 60 years who was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle before being released.”

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 15:33 hours two fire engines from Whitehaven and Cockermouth attended a road traffic collision with persons trapped on the A5086 in Deanscales.

“Fire crews used Holmatro cutting equipment to release four casualties from a vehicle and were in attendance for two hours.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, in particular the driver of a 4×4 type vehicle who may have witnessed the incident as they travelled towards Cockermouth.

Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting log 154 of 29th October 2018.
