Nicola Farnon Trio return to Threlkeld

Nicola Farnon

Following their successful appearance in 2015, The Nicola Farnon Trio are making a much awaited return to Threlkeld on Friday 16th November at 8pm.

Nicola Farnon is widely recognised as one of the classiest Jazz and Swing musicians in the UK. She has a remarkable musical pedigree, both parents being professional classical musicians and her great uncle no less than the late Robert Farnon.

She has played with such Jazz luminaries as Dave Newton, Digby Fairweather, Jim Mullen, Bruce Adams, Roy Williams and Alan Barnes and alongside class jazz acts as diverse as Eliane Elias, Courtney Pine, Georgie Fame, Tony Kofi, Michael Garrick Jazz Britannia Orchestra, Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, Humphrey Lyttleton and Acker Bilke.

With Nicola’s trio you get a lot of musical talent that manages to pack a mighty punch for a seemingly small outfit as, although there are only three, between them they cover vocals, double bass, piano, sax, drums and percussion.

Nicola Farnon manages to combine her exceptional talents of singing and playing bass with a delightfully original and very inclusively warm and witty performance. Then, there is Piero Tucci, described as ‘a jazzer’s dream’, as skilful on keys as he is on sax. The third member is Phil Johnson, who drives the whole performance with an intense and propulsive drumming that allows the overall song to shine through.

They play an eclectic mixture of popular classics from the 1930s to 70s (and a few of Nicola’s own very catchy originals); classy arrangements with a mixture of swing; latin and the heart rending ballads.

Nicola is a class act with a passionate and swinging style, outstanding personality and a charismatic stage presence to match – and an uncanny ability to adapt her performance to captivate and embrace any audience.

The late, great Humphrey Lyttleton said about her: “She’s a remarkable performer on stage, a fine singer and an outstandingly swinging and propulsive bass player with an outgoing personality to match…I declare that she is a class act who should be on every jazz festival in the land….A sure fire hit!”

Tickets are £12 (£6 under 18s) available from the village PO, village hall Coffee Shop and on-line at http://www.threlkeldvillagehall.org/whats-on. Bar and Box Office from 7:15pm. Box Office enquiries 07733 790308.
