Police officers in Dumfries are asking people who have vehicles parked in the west car park next to Whitesands to move them as soon as possible.
Officers are also asking those who are parked in the east car park, the dock park area and dockhead car park to move their vehicles as soon as possible.
Weather warnings expect the area to flood from around 5 pm and therefore the car park will be closing as a precaution. It is anticipated that Whitesands may also be closed this evening depending on the levels of flooding.
Inspector Hugh McCombe said: “We are going to have to close the west car park at Whitesands and diversions are being put in place as we prepare for the worst of the weather. I would ask motorists to remove their cars as soon as possible and thereafter avoid the area. I want to thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience. If you have any concerns please contact Police via 101.”
