Fusehill Street play area

A Carlisle play area will be unveiled this Wednesday (30 January), following a £41,000 revamp.

The Carlisle City Council Fusehill Street play area refurbishment includes the replacement of existing play equipment and re-surfacing works.

The works were undertaken on the council’s behalf by Wicksteed Playgrounds and local contractors ‘Kirkaldy & Roe’.

The new play equipment includes: swings (infants cradle seats, junior flat seats and a basket swing); a multi play unit with slide for younger children; a refurbished climbing unit for older children; a roundabout and a ‘surfboard’ seesaw. A goal unit has also been installed.

All existing safety surfacing has also been replaced and new seating has been installed.

Prior to the improvement works, consultation was held with the local community with the support of Brook Street School, Greystone Community Centre and Nursery and Fusehill Street Medical Practice. The feedback was used to compile the list of preferred items which the contractor has installed.

Cllr Chris Southward, Portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said: “I would to thank all those who have been involved in the development of the newly refurbished play area, including a big thank you to Brook Street School, Greystone Community Centre and Nursery, Fusehill Street Medical Practice and all the local children whose inspiring ideas and suggestions helped us to design and deliver the play area they wanted.”

Local nursery children from Greystone Community Centre, Brook Street Primary School and representatives from Fusehill Street Medical Practice and residents have been invited to the reopening event and will get to try out the new play equipment.
