Get It Loud In Libraries brings indie rising stars Whenyoung to Barrow

ONE of indie music’s hottest prospects will be playing a special intimate live show in Furness next week.

Irish trio Whenyoung are the latest band in an illustrious list to appear on the Get It Loud In Libraries programme, which has unearthed such superstars as Adele, Plan B and Clean Bandit.

On Wednesday April 3, they headline at Barrow Library, supported by fellow up-and-coming talents Lucia.

Hailed among Ireland’s leading new bands, Whenyoung caught the attention of major labels with their 2017 breakthrough singles “Actor” and “Silverchair”. Following the release of their critically-acclaimed debut EP, “Given Up”, and epic single “Never Let Go” – released through Virgin EMI – they have recently completed their first US tour, kicking off at the prestigious Mercury Lounge in New York.

Other huge support slots to their name have included appearances alongside Declan McKenna, The Vaccines, and Blossoms, and even performing at Shane MacGowan’s birthday party among artists such as Sinéad O’Connor and Bono.

The trio – singer/bassist Aoife Power, guitarist Niall Burns, and drummer Andrew Flood – make some of alternative music’s most compelling new sounds; a soaring, stunning, but still singalong take on musical anthemia, that fuses the storyteller’s nature of their home country of Ireland with the effortless cool of the London scene they now call home.

Support for the night, Lucia, have also been tipped for the top. The Glaswegians were discovered busking on the streets of their home city, and have gone on to support the likes of The Undertones and The Big Moon, and have been championed by BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens.

Get It Loud In Libraries has picked up a reputation for spotting talent early, with some of its former guests going on to achieve worldwide acclaim. The programme first visited Barrow at the end of 2016, bringing US rock icons We Are Scientists to the stunning Library venue. Other acts that have visited the town with Get It Loud In Libraries include soul upstart Nilufer Yanya, singer-songwriter Lucy Rose, and a young Sam Fender, who has since picked up a BRIT Award!

Whenyoung and Lucia appear at Barrow Library, Ramsden Square, Barrow, LA14 1LL on Wednesday April 3. Doors open at 8pm, and tickets are priced £8.
