A second man has been arrested as part of enquiries into an assault which has left a Kendal man in a critical condition.

Last night (March 30) officers arrested a 27-year-old man, from Kendal, on suspicion of attempted murder.

The arrest relates to an assault that occurred shortly before 2am yesterday on a footpath at Waterside in Kendal.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, suffered serious head and body injuries as a result of the assault. He remains in a critical condition at Royal Preston Hospital.

A 21-year-old man, from Kendal, was arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm shortly after the assault. Both men arrested as part of this investigation remain in custody.

Detectives are reiterating their appeal for members of the public to come forward with any information they may have in connection with this assault.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer in the South Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team. Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
