Cartmell’s Community Choir

The University of Cumbria and Cartmell Shepherd are joining musical forces to present an evening of music and entertainment.

The university’s acapella choirs will perform alongside the long-established Community Choir supported and sponsored by Cartmell Shepherd and led by Lyn Young.

Compered by Carlisle’s very own, John Myers, the choirs will be joined by special guests, internationally renowned opera singer, Professor Valerie Reid and Carlisle-born baritone, Andrew Johnston.

Peter Stafford, managing director of Cartmell Shepherd, said: “This concert provides a unique opportunity for the Cartmells Community Choir to perform on the same stage as some of the university’s most talented singers.

“The evening will deliver a rich and varied mix of music and song and we’re delighted to be able to showcase such talent and raise funds for two most-worthy Cumbrian charities”.

“Community is important to us at the University of Cumbria,” said Professor of Practice, Professor Graeme Danby and music director of the university choirs.

“During their studies we encourage our students to engage in activities that will provide them with enrichment and professional development skills. To work in partnership with Cartmell Shepherd has been a rewarding experience and we are looking forward to presenting this concert with them.”

Lyn Young, musical director of the Cartmell Shepherd Community Choir welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Cumbria in order to raise funds for local charities.

She said: “The choir love to be involved in community projects and are looking forward to this collaborative event to raise funds for such wonderful causes.

“Working with the university also gives us the opportunity to take on some different repertoire and work with an accomplished accompanist.”

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and the Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club.

Spring Into Summer: A Musical Journey, takes place at 7pm on Thursday 2 May 2019 at the Tithe Barn, West Walls, Carlisle.

Tickets priced at £10/£8 are available by email to boxoffice@stanwixtheatre.co.uk or telephone 01228 400356.
