To celebrate World Book Day in March, Allerdale Libraries ran a competition for local children to redesign the cover of their favourite book.
We had a great response with many fantastic entries. The winners and runners up attended a presentation and prize giving event at Maryport Library on Saturday 25 May.
Councillor Anthony Markley, Vice Chair of Cumbria County Council and Vice Chair of Allerdale Local Committee presented the children with their certificates and prizes.
Cllr Markley commented: “As one of the judges I was delighted to see such a high standard and creativity across all the entries. I am encouraged to see children enjoying reading and taking part in events in our libraries.”
Libraries across the county are also encouraging children to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which launches on Saturday 13 July 2019. We’re also looking for volunteers to come forward to help run the Summer Reading Challenge in libraries all over Cumbria.
