Penrith man jailed for driving offences

A Penrith man has appeared from police custody at the Magistrates Court in Carlisle today (THURS).

Ricky Lee Wayne Murphy, 23, pleaded guilty to three driving while disqualified offences and one of failing to provide a blood sample.

The court was told on July 12 at Penrith he was seen driving a Ford C-Max car on Queen Street; he was spotted by an off-duty police officer.

Then on October 4, on the C1041 road between Calthwaite and Burthwaite he was involved in a traffic collision while he was riding XJ600 Yamaha bike, he collided with a car and was thrown from the motorbike and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, again a driving while disqualified offence, at the hospital he failed to provide a blood sample.

Yesterday, December 4, he was again caught driving, this time a blue Honda CRV car on Prescott Road in Carlisle, Murphy was seen by an officer, he got out of the car and ran away, minutes later we was caught after a chase on foot by police officers and arrested.

The court was told Murphy of Carleton Road, Penrith has 13-previous convictions from 26 offences.

Magistrates’ imposed a prison sentence of 26-weeks in total for the four-offences, he has to pay a victims surcharge of £122 on his release from prison, he was also disqualified for a further 18-months.
