Former Longtown hotel manager admits theft charges

A former employee from The Graham Arms Hotel in Longtown has appeared at North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court today (TUES) charged with two counts of theft by an employee and one of false accounting.

Stewart McIntosh, 58, gave his address as English Street, Longtown,  he pleaded guilty to the three offences.

The charges are of theft by an employee and occurred between August 1, 2011 and July 1, 2018 at Longtown he stole money to the value of £100,588 belonging to the Graham Arms Hotel, also between January 2, and May 1, 2018 a similar offence involving £6,650.

The false accounting offence is dated between August 1, 2011 and July 1, 2018, in that he dishonestly with a view to gain for himself or another or with intent to cause loss, falsified a document namely cash sheets made or required for accounting purposes.

A brief description of the charges were given to the magistrates,  McIntosh was a manager at the hotel, he was in charge of cash and banking and the offences were a  breach of trust.

The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court for sentencing, to be heard on January 17, 2020. A pre sentence report was ordered for Crown Court.
