Cine North are looking for switched on people aged 16-25 who are keen to make a difference to how things work at Cine North.

Cine North is one of the largest community cinema schemes in the UK, screening a mixture of foreign language, specialised and mainstream films in 60 towns and villages across the north of England. The people who run the cinemas are brilliant. Great people keeping their local communities lively and good places to live.

Cine North Young Programmers scheme aims to bring more young people into the thinking and doing behind Cine North venues and programming.

Selected Young Programmers will get an all expenses paid trip to one of the UK’s major cities to attend an Independent Cinema Office screening weekend, where they will get to see brand new independent cinema which are yet to be released, meet film industry professionals, network with other people who work in the industry, and meet other young people who are involved in cinema.

They will also receive mentoring from a professional film programmer and get to programme and run their own Cine North cinema event.

Heather Walker, Deputy Director at Eden Arts who run Cine North said: “We are looking for young people who are bright, have opinions and want to change things. They could be really into film, might just enjoy going to the cinema a few times a month, or are interested in organising events. The project is looking for a mix of people, with a variety of tastes and interests. As well as getting to know about the film industry they will also make new friends, gain new skills, confidence, and contacts along the way.”

Young people need to be based/live in/are from Tees Valley, Cumbria, Yorkshire or Lancashire and have easy access to a Cine North venue (a full list of venues can be found online) and be aged 16 – 25 years old.

Cine North and the Young Programmers scheme is run by Eden Arts and funded by Film Hub North, BFI Film Audience Network, Arts Council England, Eden District Council and supported by Arts Out West.

For more information and to apply please go to www.cinenorth.co.uk and click the Young Programmers link. Deadline for applications is 1st March.
