Emergency services are currently responding to a large fire at the former Fusion nightclub building in Workington.

Police were alerted to a fire shortly before 11pm on Saturday (30 May) at the premises on Ladies Walk.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Nearby premises and homes on Ladies Walk and Coopers Walk have been evacuated whilst crews from Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service tackle the fire.

“There are no reported injuries at this time.

“Washington Street is currently closed in both directions to assist fire crews.

“A cordon is in place and members of the public are urged not to attend the scene.”

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “On 30th May at 10:50pm eight fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a welfare unit were called to a commercial property fire on Ladies Walk, Workington.

“A large three story building was well alight on arrival of fire service personnel.

“Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, main jets and ground monitors to extinguish the fire.

“Fire service personnel in attendance approximately fifteen hours.”
