The Diverse Cumbria Awards are to make a return next May following this year’s postponed event.

The awards celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion right across the Cumbrian region, the awards have been going for five years now and the fifth ceremony will take place on Friday 28th May 2021 at The Halston in Carlisle.

Following new awards being announced, the total categories now come to nine including; Business Champion, Diversity Event of the Year, Educational Champion, Organisation Champion, Positive Role Model, Positive Young Person, Public Sector Champion, Volunteer Champion and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Organiser Ben Vollans of the Ink Events Company is delighted with the announcement: “After being a bit disheartened having to postpone this year’s Diverse Cumbria Awards, I am delighted to announce our new date for our 5th year anniversary for 2021!

“Planning is in full swing again and I have kept nominations open this entire time, so the judges will have lots to read through. I’m so excited that we are getting to put our 5th year on to celebrate these amazing people and organisations in Cumbria doing the most incredible work! I honestly can’t wait for the night, it’s one of my highlights of my year!”

A spokesperson for Sellafield Ltd who are the lead sponsor said: “Sellafield Ltd are delighted to support the Diverse Cumbria Awards again in 2021. We have seen these awards grow and develop and can’t wait for the 5th year.

“While Covid 19 has brought enormous challenge and heartache in 2020 it has also allowed us to see so many people stepping forwards to make a difference in and for their communities. These awards give us the opportunity to recognise those contributions.”

Another sponsor of the event, Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership said: “We are proud to Sponsor the Diverse Cumbria Awards. These awards are an excellent showcase for the incredible people, businesses and organisations within Cumbria that are doing exceptional work to promote equality, diversity and inclusion. It is really important that we celebrate diversity, which helps make Cumbria the place that it is.”
