Christian art retreat planned for Keswick

A creative retreat for Christian artists is planned for Keswick in April.

The three-day Art Retreat is being organised by Keswick Ministries with Morphē Arts, a mentoring charity for Christians in the creative arts.

The retreat is for artists who work in the visual arts, but all are welcome.

It gives artists an opportunity to take time out from the pressures of life to meet together for a creative weekend.

Alastair Gordon, founding director of Morphē Arts, said: “Join us as we share our faith and art together.

“The retreat will be a homely space to be restored and refreshed in God’s word with other artists.

“Many of us have experienced life increasingly online this past year, here you will have a weekend away from screens surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Keswick.”

The retreat will be a practical weekend on how to survive and thrive as a Christian and an artist.

It will feature teaching slots in the mornings and afternoon workshops will be held for participants to draw in and around Keswick.

The teaching sessions will be an opportunity to hear a Biblical overview of the arts and will look at topics such as the creation, fall, redemption and new creation.

Each session will be rooted in the Bible and illustrated with examples from art.

Art workshops will be optional and there will be time to make work in response to the Keswick landscape and situation.

Sessions will be led by Alastair, who is a London-based artist and lecturer.

He is course leader for the professional practice graduate programme at the Leith School of Art, Edinburgh.

He also leads the Keswick Unconventional programme, the arts stream in week three of the annual Convention.

James Robson, Ministry director of Keswick Ministries, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Morphē Arts to run this event.

“This is the first of its kind in the teaching and training programme at Keswick Ministries – and we’re looking forward to welcoming Christian artists to the beautiful setting of Keswick.”

The event is planned to go ahead in Keswick but will depend on Government regulations at the time.
