Copeland residents will be sent their polling cards next week ahead of the elections in May.

Residents will go to the polls to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria on May 6.

There are also by-elections for Copeland Borough Council’s Whitehaven Central ward – for a vacant seat alongside sitting councillors Eileen Weir and Charles Maudling – and Parton Parish Council.

Nominations for candidates open on March 25 and can be made until April 8.

Copeland Council is alerting residents to a number of changes to polling stations as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, and the unavailability of a number of regular venues.

  • Cleator Moor Civic Hall (for those who usually use Cleator Moor Nursery)
  • St Begh’s Social Centre (for Corkickle residents who usually use St Gregory and St Patrick’s School)
  • St Andrew’s Church, Whitehaven (for Whitehaven South residents who usually use St Gregory and St Patrick’s School)
  • The Palladium Theatre, Millom (for those who usually use Black Combe Junior School)
  • Adams Memorial Hall, Arlecdon (for those who usually use 24 Asby Road)
  • Distington Community Centre (for those who usually use 51 Pica Cottages)
  • St Andrew’s Church Hall, Whitehaven (for those who usually use 8 Rutland Avenue)
  • Kirkland Mission (for those who usually use Lamplugh Village Hall)
  • St Joseph’s Community Centre, Frizington (for those who usually use Frizington Youth Centre)
  • St Mary’s Parish Centre, Egremont (for those who usually use Orgill School)
  • Thornhill Social Club, Egremont (for those who usually use Thornhill School Library)
  • St Mary’s Club, High Road, Whitehaven (for those who usually use St Peter’s Parish Community Hall)

Residents must be registered to vote by April 19 to take part in the elections.

Copeland Council is also reminding residents that postal and proxy voting options are available for those who are unable to attend a polling station on May 6. The deadline to register for a postal vote is April 20 and for a proxy vote it is April 27.
