Officers in Cumbria caught 30 drivers who committed a range of motoring offences in the county.
Cumbria Constabulary’s road policing team and north and Eden proactive teams ran Operation Locality during the Easter weekend.
Their aim was to reduce the number of road traffic collisions in Eden, Hartside and Alston.
Historically the force has seen an increase in the number of casualties during the Easter period due to an influx of visitors to Cumbria.
Speed camera vans were placed in Alston and Hartside in an effort to reduce the number of speeding offences, while officers in Penrith and the surrounding area tackled antisocial driving during the evening, targeting drivers who were speeding and driving carelessly.
During the operation 30 drivers were found speeding, driving without due care and attention, driving without a valid licence and various mechanical issues including excessive noise from the exhaust.
A 42-year-old was arrested on suspicion of various motoring offences and has since been bailed to appear at Carlisle’s magistrates’ court.
Three drivers were also reported to appear at court and police say “numerous intelligence information” was gathered.
Inspector Steve Vickers from the Mobile Support Group said: “This operation has had a clear impact on reducing those speeding through the visible police presence of our speed camera vans.
“As restrictions lift and the weather improves more people will be on our roads. It’s important that drivers take responsibility for their actions and drive to the conditions of the roads and be vigilant for other road users.
“Unfortunately, we see the devastating impact that collisions can have not just on individuals, but their families and communities. We will continue to be proactive in targeting those putting others at risk.”
