Eden council election winners revealed

Eden council has announced the winners of yesterday’s local elections.

The count took place today at Penrith Leisure Centre.

Hartside ward

The new district councillor for the Hartside ward is Raymond Briggs, Conservative.

The votes cast for each candidate were:

  • Raymond Briggs, Conservative Party – 194
  • Susan Jane Castle-Clark, 101
  • Dave Knaggs, Labour Party – 94
  • Nikita Parks, Independent – 41
  • Spoiled ballot papers – 1

Turnout was 38.14 per cent.

Skelton ward

The new district councillor for the Skelton ward is Colin Atkinson, Conservative.

The votes cast for each candidate were:

  • Colin Atkinson, Conservative Party – 302
  • Roger Buglin, Liberal Democrats – 131
  • Belinda Lloyd, Green Party – 81
  • Hilary Jane Snell, Labour Party – 41
  • Spoiled ballot papers – 8

Turnout was 45.89 per cent.

Penrith Pategill ward

The new Penrith town councillor for the Penrith Pategill ward is Valerie Bowen, Liberal Democrat.

The votes cast for each candidate were:

  • Valerie Bowen, Liberal Democrats – 183
  • Daniel Harding, Putting Cumbria First – 57
  • Spoiled ballot papers – 1

Turnout was 23.93 per cent.

Alston Parish Council

The four new Alston parish councillors for the Alston Moor ward are: Brian Desmond Davies (Independent) – 174 votes; Norman Bradley English, 285 votes; Steven Walter Edward Hattersley, 39 votes; and Raymond Miller, 325 votes.

Kathy Reeds (Independent) received 134 votes and Ron Robinson 141 votes. They were not elected. There were three spoiled votes.

Turnout was 40.13 per cent.

The count for Cumbria’s police and crime commissioner takes place on Monday.
