A number of Stagecoach routes in Carlisle will be temporarily moved next week as part of a revamp of the city’s bus station.
Work on Lonsdale Street will begin next Monday, with plans to completely replace the current station with a new, modern design.
Rob Jones, managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, said: “The new station design will give more space to passengers as they get on and off the bus, and we’re also improving lighting which will make a huge difference during the dark winter evenings.
“We have aimed to keep disruption to a minimum while vital works are carried out to improve the Lonsdale Street bus station.
“The timetables for each service will remain unchanged for the duration of the work, but we ask that passengers take note of the new temporary arrival and departure points.”
From Monday, buses will drop off and depart from nearby streets to allow for the work to take place.
The bus station is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday June 2.
Passengers who use the following services will be dropped off at a temporary stop on Lonsdale Street, while buses will now depart from the Apple Tree bus stop (Stand I) on Lowther Street:
- 93 Carlisle – Bowness on Solway
- 300 Carlisle – Workington
- 400 Carlisle – Silloth
- 554 Carlisle – Keswick
- 600 Carlisle – Cockermouth
Services 73 (Carlisle – Keswick), 91A (Carlisle – Caldew School) and 104 (Carlisle – Penrith – Center Parcs) will drop off at Devonshire Street (Stand F) but depart from different locations.
The 73 and 91A, will leave from Broadacre House in Lowther Street (Stand T), and the 104 departs from a temporary stop near The Halston, in Warwick Road.
All of the services that typically depart from Stand 5 at the bus station (79 Carlisle – Dumfries; 179 Carlisle – Annan; 685 Carlisle – Brampton – Newcastle) will instead be dropping off at the temporary stop in Warwick Road near The Halston, which is also where the 79 and 179 depart from.
The 685 service will depart from Club Britannia, in Lowther Street (Stand H).
