A man in his 60s was taken to hospital in a seriously ill condition after a crash involving a HGV and a car on the A66.

Police, fire and paramedics were called to the A66 near Kemplay Bank Roundabout in Penrith shortly before 4.30pm yesterday.

The road was blocked westbound just before the roundabout.

It is understood that a forensic investigation unit also attended. A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: “Multiple resources attended following a call reporting an RTC between an HGV and car.

“We took a man in his 60s to hospital in a seriously ill condition.”
