A patient was airlifted to hospital after a crash on the M6.
Emergency services were called to the M6 northbound between junctions 39 and 40 at about 5.30pm yesterday.
Police, fire, Great North Air Ambulance Service and North West Ambulance Service teams were all called to the scene.
The fire service and paramedics helped to free a casualty from the vehicle.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: “We flew at 5.30pm to reports of a car turned over on the M6 between junctions 39 and 40. We attended with a doctor and paramedic onboard and we treated one patient who was then flown to hospital in Carlisle for care.
“We were on scene for 40 minutes and the patient was flown to hospital from the scene. The flight took 13 minutes.”
The incident caused long delays for motorists.

A statement from Cumbria Constabulary’s roads policing team said: “What initially presented as a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision has turned out to be less so.
“One driver no injury, the other slightly worse off but not believed life-changing or threatening.”
