A Carlisle play area is to get a £75,000 makeover.
The £75,000 Hammonds Pond scheme, which will see the infant’s playground overhauled, will also include renovation of the junior section of the play area later this summer.
It is being funded by local developer contributions and will be undertaken by contractors working on Carlisle City Council’s behalf.
The work is expected to take several weeks and will start on Monday with the removal of the existing equipment.
Residents were asked to have their say on what replacement equipment they’d like to see installed in Hammond’s Pond play area last year and following the consultation equipment was chosen and will now be installed.
Carlisle City Council worked with the Friends of Hammond’s Pond and Hammond’s Pond café to seek views on what new play equipment park users like to see on the site.
“We’re delighted that the redevelopment is supported by the Friends of Hammond’s Pond and the Hammond’s Pond café. The new play equipment will create a much-improved facility that will benefit residents and other users of the park, said Elizabeth Mallinson, portfolio holder for communities, health and wellbeing.
The improvement scheme will include replacement of old and worn play equipment plus the surfacing in the infant and junior sections of the play area.
The new equipment and surfacing provided is robust, long-lasting and provides a range of play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.
Further improvement work includes paths, bridges and the BMX track. Additional public engagement will be held on these stages of work.
