Cyclists in Barrow-in-Furness who need to fix their bikes on the go can make use of new cycle repair stations, each equipped with basic tools and a pump.

Cumbria County Council’s Barrow Local Committee has installed 11 cycle repair stations in key locations throughout the borough, enabling cyclists to inflate tyres and make minor repairs.

The bike repair stations support the council’s drive to promote active travel options for people who live, work and visit the borough.

Kevin Hamilton, chairman of Cumbria County Council’s Barrow Local Committee, said: “These new cycle repair stations are a welcome addition to the borough and will support the committee efforts to encourage people to take up active travel. They will make a big difference for residents who need to access general bike maintenance.”

Repair stations can be found in the following locations:

  • Biggar Bank Road, Walney
  • Earnse Bay car park, Walney
  • Rating Lane, Barrow
  • Coronation Drive, Dalton
  • Greenhaume Cycleway, Askam
  • Abbots Vale, Barrow
  • Westfield Trail, Barrow
  • Michaelson Road, near roundabout, Barrow
  • Dalton Lane, Barrow
  • Ormsgill Community Centre, Barrow
  • Bessemer Way, car park near Channelside, Barrow

Funding for the cycle repair stations was given by the county council’s Barrow Local Committee. Funding for the stations was secured as part of the county council’s bid to the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund.

Users of the stations are reminded to wash their hands before and after use or use hand sanitiser, and to maintain social distancing from other users to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
