A South Lakes charity supporting the homeless and vulnerably housed has welcomed the return of its fundraising garden party.
Since 2013, the annual event at Manna House in Kendal has raised over £8,000 in support of its work.
Now, with the lifting of COVID restrictions, the garden party, held at Kendal’s Gooseholme, will take place on Saturday July 3 – the charity’s first face-to-face fundraiser since the start of the pandemic.
The charity’s chief office Andrea Aldridge said: “Our Friends of Manna House Garden Party is the highlight of our very active fundraising year in the South Lakes.
“The event is brilliantly supported by the local community and businesses who understand how important our work is.
“This socially distanced event will be a welcome return to wandering and chattering whilst enjoying our special refreshments.”
Homemade marmalade, plants, and crafts by the Sew What? women’s group will be on sale, and all money raised will go towards essential services such as housing and benefits advice and advocacy, learning and skills development opportunities, and group sessions.
Manna House, established in 2003 and based in Kendal, is managed by a team of professionals with help from dedicated volunteers from the local community.
In 2018 founder and co-ordinator, Nina Bale, 87, received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service at Buckingham Palace on behalf of all Manna House volunteers.
