Askam have explained why they decided to pull out of the National Conference’s regional competition.
The Conference’s administrator Alan Smith said: “A number of their players at present have COVID and others have now said that they could not commit to playing for the foreseeable future.
“It leaves the club in a position where they could struggle to fulfil fixtures for each game so have taken the very difficult decision to pull out.
“A decision will be made in due course regarding the results of the two games they have played, losing both.”
Their home game with Kells was the first casualty on Saturday when six of the Conference’s 22 fixtures were called off because of COVID.
A week earlier, 11 of 21 games had been postponed because of infections.
Kells will get the chance to get back into action on Wednesday night when they take on a West Cumbrian derby at Egremont.
