The rearranged National Conference clash between Egremont and Kells was called off because of more COVID infections.

As a result Egremont have had to call off their planned fixture in the Cumbria Group against Millom on Saturday.

With COVID cases on the rise across the county there is a real fear that the Conference’s regionalised competition might not be completed in Cumbria.

Kells were in action, though, in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL when their A team played at champions Distington and after a tight game lost 18-10.

It was a game that could have gone either way, especially when Distington had Scott George red-carded on the hour.

The champions had gone into a 10-0 lead inside 17 minutes with tries from Phil Lister and Scott George, one of which was converted by George, but Kells hit back to square matters by half-time with tries from Carl Garner and Ryan Starkey, one of which was converted by Grant Gainford.

Distington saw most of the ball in the second-half and got back in front when Adam Conway went in under the posts and Scott Rooke converted.

Gavin Martin added a penalty later when Kells couldn’t make their man advantage count. Indeed late on they had Gainford yellow-carded.
