Carlisle Crown Court

A Carlisle man has been jailed for 18 months for offences including attempted burglary and theft.

Simon Highmore, 31, of Priory Road, was sentenced for attempted burglary, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft of a pedal cycle, going equipped to steal, possession of class A drugs and possession of class B drugs.

The court heard how Highmore committed offences between May 14 and May 17, which saw him steal a bike from a rear yard in Newtown Road and another from a shed in Goschen Road.

Highmore was seen attempting to steal from a motor vehicle in Wigton Road on May 17.

He was also witnessed trying the door handle to gain entry to the house. He was located nearby shortly after and found to be in possession of cocaine and a yellowish powder believed to be amphetamine.

He was also in possession of various other items including torches, gloves, a Stanley knife and allen keys.

Detective Constable Karen Minnion said: “Highmore’s spree of stealing deprived a number of people of valuable possessions and caused a great deal of upset and anxiety for the victims.

“Thankfully we were able to reunite most of those who were targeted with their belongings. “I hope today’s sentencing shows how seriously such offending is taken by both the police and the courts.”
