A man has been sentenced after he assaulted another man outside a Botchergate takeaway.
Callum Goodison, 23, formerly of Westmorland Street, Carlisle, was sentenced yesterday at Carlisle Crown Court for Section 20 GBH and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
Goodison assaulted a man, aged in his 30s, outside a Botchergate takeaway on the evening of May 26. The assault followed an earlier interaction when the man, aged in his 30s, accidentally bumped into Goodison.
The victim suffered fractures to his face and spine which required hospital treatment.
The drug supply offence came to light when officers found bag containing cannabis worth an approximate street value of £6,000 at a Carlisle address in February.
Following arrest enquiries into the GBH incident, detectives uncovered fingerprint and phone evidence connecting Goodison to the drugs.
Goodison pleaded guilty to the GBH charge and was found guilty by a jury concerning cannabis supply. He received a sentence of 51 weeks suspended for 24 months.
Detective Constable Matthew Rees, North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said: “The sentencing will hopefully send out a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our community.
“Goodison made off from the scene of the assault without any consideration for the medical attention his victim required. The victim was left unconscious and suffered serious injuries following a seemingly innocuous incident where the victim had bumped into him and had quickly apologised.
“Individuals who engage in such violence deservedly are put before the courts.
“Our officers carry out daily enquiries to target all illegal drug supply activity within Cumbria. We will continue to carry out this work to make Cumbria a safer place.”
