Australian prop forward Ryan King has praised the Whitehaven club after finally making his debut for the West Cumbrians.
King had damaged an anterior cruciate ligament towards the end of the Australian season after he had agreed a move to Whitehaven.
He said: “I could have understood it under the circumstances if Whitehaven had ripped up the paperwork.
“But they not only stood by the deal but brought me over to complete my rehabilitation.
“I had just agreed the move so it meant a great deal that the club stood by it and were prepared to wait for me to regain fitness. I just want to do all I can to repay that faith.
“It’s been great to have time to settle in at the club and the town so I’m really looking forward to playing in front of our fans .”
That will be on Sunday against Oldham in a crucial Championship clash when a win would pull the Cumbrians well clear of their opponents.
He made his debut at Halifax eight days ago and earned man of the match reviewswhen Haven put up a stirring effort in defeat.
“The knee felt fine, which was a great relief, although I know I was a bit rusty through not playing for so long,” said King.
