Surviving ARL games were crackers

Only two games survived in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL but they proved to be crackers.

Two close encounters were, in the end, settled by the goal-kicking providing victories for Maryport and Aspatria.

Maryport had travelled to Cockermouth and after trailing 12-6 at half-time came back to snatch victory at 24-22.

Aspatria and Seaton A were all square at the break,6-6, but the home side forged ahead to win 24-18 but it was their four goal kicks to the visitors’ one which made the difference.

The game at Cockermouth was a splendid advert for Amateur Rugby League where the lead changed  hands continually.

It was a contest that could have gone either way right up until the final minute.

Despite Cockermouth scoring one more try than Maryport, it was the visitors that took home the points.

The try scorers for Cockermouth were Rob Scott (2), Ryan Scott

Richard Nicholson and Peter Woods with Jack Clark landing a conversion.

The Maryport try scorers were man of the match Scott Atherton (2), Liam Anderton and Chris Ivison with four crucial goals from Craig Foster.

Man of the match for Cockermouth was Jordan Herve.

At Aspatria, the home side scored tries through Luke Johnson,

Ross Barton, Stuart Creighton and Alex Barton. Matty Irving kicked four goals.

Seaton A matched them for tries through Brandon Walker, Matty Haywood, Ryan Heron and Stephen Harris.

Crucially Walker landed only one goal.

In the end it was the faultless goal kicking of Irving that made the difference and secured the points for Aspatria.

The games off were: Wath Brow A v Ellenborough and Lowca v Hensingham.
