Free Theatre by the Lake tickets on offer

Twenty Sunday afternoon tickets are available for families on low incomes for Theatre by the Lake’s Trailer Story in Keswick.

The theatre has teamed up with Anti Racist Cumbria to offer the tickets for the event in Crow Park, an outdoor festival of spoken word, theatre and comedy created in partnership with English Touring Theatre and Northern Stage.

The Sunday afternoon Green Pass will allow people to experience two theatre shows; I, Malvolio a modern take on Twelfth Night the Shakespeare classic performed by Tim Crouch, and Can I Touch Your Hair? a play written and performed by local talent Lekhani Chirwa.

Cumbrian theatre maker and actress Lekhani Chirwa’s play is a bold yet humorous piece which charts her hair struggles as she grew up dual-heritage in Cumbria but more importantly, the pride and acceptance of identity.

This will be the first performance of the play in her home county following successful performances in London, Hull and Slough.

Janett Walker CEO and co-founder of Anti Racist Cumbria said: “It’s great that Theatre by the Lake are showcasing diverse homegrown talent and sharing a wide range of culture and ideas at the Trailer Story festival, we are delighted to offer these free tickets so that more local people can enjoy it.”

There are five bubble tickets available for groups of up to four.

Email sophia@antiracistcumbria.org to reserve. Reservations must be made by noon on Friday August 6 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. People must live in the CA12 postcode and the recommended age is 14-plus.

The tickets are being offered on trust to those who apply and no ‘proof of need’ such as free school meal voucher, or proof of benefit receipts will be asked for.
