Workington Reds boss Chris Willcock admits he has a headache ahead of Saturday’s opening NPL game at Kidsgrove.
“But it’s the kind of headache I don’t mind,” he said, acknowledging it’s good to have a full squad to pick from rather than scratching around for numbers.
“We have a full squad of players to pick from and they were all buoyant at training last night looking forward to the first competitive game.”
Ruben Jerome and Iyrwah Gooden, who both missed the 6-0 win over Morpeth on Saturday through not feeling well, were back at the session.
The pair were reunited with new signing Nico Evangelinos after they had formed the Ramsbottom front line of attack two years ago.
Reds record-breaking striker Scott Allison joined in the session as he recovers from a third shoulder injury.
Although he is keen to play again he has a hospital appointment at the end of the month and Reds are likely to manage and monitor the situation until then.
Manager Willcock has been looking at bringing in an extra defender to add more depth to the squad in that particular area.
“I have been talking to a couple of players but there’s nothing concrete at the moment.
“Things might change before the weekend but if not we have a talented enough squad to start the season,” he said.
Reds have done their homework on Kidsgrove through contacts of both Willcock and his assistant Steven Rudd, although the manager insists “it’s all about ourselves and how we perform on the day.
