
A Cumbrian animal charity will hold an open day next weekend, featuring a dog show and a chance to measure your pooch’s IQ.
Oak Tree Animals’ Charity, in Wetheral Shields, said the event, on Saturday August 21, promises to be a day of fun for all the family and their canine companiions.
The dog show has six classes, including Heinz 57, Best Rescue, Happiest Hound, Clever K9 Tricks, Fastest Recall and Sausage Snaffle.
The cost to enter is £3 per dog or £5 for two entries and registration is from 11am on site.
Carlisle mayor Pam Birks will be one of the guest judges for the dog show, which kicks off at 1pm.
The Charity’s Equine Team will be holding ‘Meet and Groom’ sessions with the ponies and donkeys, including Charlie and Pringle, throughout the day while Oak Tree’s Community Team will be in attendance to answer any questions about the services they offer including Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) and A Helping Paw.
There will be activities for children and your pet in the form of Snuffle Painting, alongside other activities.
Dogs will be able to take part by having a go at Hoopers and, back by popular demand, Masterdog which is an opportunity to measure your dog’s IQ!
The charity’s popular jumble sale will take place in Orchard Yard along with a plant sale, and the tearoom will be open from 10am.
Caroline Johnson, general manager, said: “We are delighted that the mayor has accepted our invitation to join us.
“The open day will be a chance for families and their dogs to come and have a great time.”
