People are being urged to take part in a walking challenge for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
The charity has teamed up with Lakeland Mountain Guides to host the Buttermere Horseshoe challenge.
The event, now in its third year, takes place on September 25.
Participants have two routes to choose from – the full horseshoe and the half horseshoe.
The full horseshoe challenge takes in eight peaks, totalling 1,400m ascent and 12.5 miles walked.
It takes the ‘high road’ around the head of the Buttermere Valley, starting at Red Pike, and continuing over High Stile, High Crag, Scarth Gap, Haystacks, Fleetwith Pike, Dale Head, then Hindscarth before the descent from Robinson through Buttermere Moss.
The half horseshoe challenge takes in four peaks, totalling 875m ascent and 6.5 miles walked.
This route is traditionally known as the Buttermere skyline.
The hardest part of this challenge is the first ascent onto Red Pike, then continuing on to High Stile, High Crag, Scarth Gap and Haystacks before descending to the finish at Honister Pass.
