Maryport racer Dan Bewley is favourite for tonight’s Sports Insure British Final.
It’s being staged at his home Belle Vue track, the National Speedway Stadium, where Bewley has been in outstanding form.
Ahead of the final, Bewley said: “You do feel a little pressure to perform in front of your home crowd, but that’s not something I try to pay too much attention to in the build-up.
“It’s a nice feeling to be thought of as the favourite and hopefully that is still the case come the end of the night, but there are no guarantees.
“There’s a lot of strong riders in this event and all of them do tend to step things up for this meeting. It won’t be easy but I’m up for the challenge and we’ll see how it goes.”
Rory Schlein defends the title he won in last year’s behind-closed-doors event, and there are five other former winners in the line-up – two ex-Comets in Charles Wright and Craig Cook, along with Danny King, Scott Nicholls and Chris Harris.
Paul Starke and another ex Comet in Simon Lambert come into the line-up to replace the injured Richie Worrall and Edward Kennett, who is out with illness.
So along with Bewley, Richard Lawson and Kyle Howarth there are now six former Workington riders taking part in the final.
