
The new County League season continued with its first clutch of mid-week games, which produced some close contests.
In the Premier Division, Northbank came out on top in their game with local rivals Carlisle City Development, Luke Miller and Brendan Box-Gill scored the goals in a 2-0 victory.
Pirelli edged a close game 3-2 at home to Wigton Harriers.
Jordan Atkinson and a double from Ellis James kept Pirelli’s winning run intact.
Jonny Studholme and Harvey Harrison replied for Wigton.
Aspatria were too strong for a young Workington Reds Development side running out 4-1 winners at St Mungo’s Park.
The home side goals came courtesy of a brace from Andrew Trestianu and strikes from Dan Pearson and Lewis Little. The Reds goal was notched by Tom Houghton
Cockermouth entertained Maryport Athletic at their new Highfield home ground. The change of venue appears to have been a good move with a 4-3 win the outcome.
In a close game, Cockermouth claimed the points with goals from Kyran Bertram, an unfortunate own goal pushing the scoring along, while one each from Mike and Luke Graham completed the total.
Athletic scored through Danny Manchester, Ethan Weir and Alec Little to take the game to the wire.
Workington Athletic eased passed Gosforth with a 5-2 home victory. Gosforth Player Manager Sam Denwood scored both goals for Gosforth while Athletic hit the net through Connor Hammell, Kevin Connelly, Mike Kilgour and a brace from Mathew Perry.
In Division One, UniSun Athletic secured a 3-1 home win over Silloth. Karlton Rudd, James Nixon and Shane Dorward were on their score sheet while George Hutton came up with the response for Silloth.
The battle of the ‘Reserves’, Whitehaven Amateurs and Cleator Moor Celtic went the way of the hoops who came out on top 2-1.
Celtic’s efforts came through Lucas Craigie and Jamie Martin. The home sides responded through Nathan McGlennon.
The six-goal thriller between Whitehaven Miners and Windscale Reserves ended in a 3-3 stalemate. As the score suggests it was end to end stuff however, neither team was able to dominate and had to settle for a point apiece.
Mike Garroway notched a brace for Miners supported by a strike from Josh Atkinson. The Atoms goals were shared between Lee Woolfe, Mark Callan and Stuart O’Pray.
