West Cumbria’s two racing organisations are taking different views on the weekend’s weather prospects.
The Derwent Valley Federation have brought their Appleton race forward by 24 hours and plan to race on Friday.
The West Cumberland Federation are also planning to race from Appleton but have put it back 24 hours to Sunday.
Officials of both federations are constantly studying the weather forecasts – which vary and change – making it a nightmare to come up with the right decision.
One West Cumberland Fed fancier said that the general view was that Monday looked the best racing day and he fully expected a further delay.
The Derwent Valley decided on Wednesday afternoon that they would mark the birds tonight for a Friday race, while the West Cumberland announced their delay this morning.
The two organisations should have been linking up as the West Cumbria Amalgamation this weekend from Appleton but the WCF made the decision to go it alone.
They have already been to Appleton with the Derwent Valley only as far as Charnock Richard, 20 miles shorter.
