Whitehaven’s winning run in the Championship came to an end at York City Knights where they lost 30-12.
It was a disappointing performance by the Cumbrians, especially as it came on the back of a stirring win over London Broncos.
The Knights took only three minutes to go ahead when Jack Teanby got over for the opening try which was converted by Matty Marsh.
The lead was doubled on 13 minutes when full-back Ben Jones-Bishop forced his way over and Marsh again converted.
Midway through the half Whitehaven reduced the arrears when Karl Dixon did well to smuggle a pass out to Lachlan Walmsley who dived in at the corner and landed a touchline conversion.
That was how it stayed until half-time with the game in the balance but three minutes after the restart York scored again through Marcus Stock and Marsh converted.
On 58minutes former Workington centre Perry Whitely was sent in for his side’s fourth try, again converted by Marsh.
Just past the hour the game was put to bed when Sam Scott scored a try, converted by Marsh and all Whitehaven could manage was a 78th minute try by Jake Bradley, converted by Walmsley.
