Kendal Town lost 2-0 at home to Colne with both goals conceded again from set pieces.
It’s been a recurring theme for manager Chris Humphrey, who is also conscious of the fact he needs a goalscorer.
He said: “We don’t seem to give goals away from open play but at set pieces we are vulnerable. It’s something other teams must study and believe they can take advantage of.
“By the same token I would be worried if we weren’t creating chances but against Colne, we had six or seven really good opportunities to score. We hit the bar twice and the post once and really should have got something out of the game.
“Overall we played well but defending set plays has cost us again, as well as not being able to take chances.
“In addition, we should have had a stonewall penalty which would have given us the chance to make it 1-1. A goal then would have changed the game.
“It was no consolation when the referee came and saw me after the game and apologised because he thought he had got it wrong.”
After two games in 48 hours, Kendal will get a break until training on Thursday ahead of the big FA Cup tie at home to Warrington Town.
“They drew 2-2 at Bamber Bridge yesterday and I will be speaking to the Bridge manager later. He will fill me in on Warrington,” said Humphrey.
Kendal are being careful over the registration of a young 18-year-old goalkeeper on loan from Burnley.
“The club got booted out of the FA Cup last season for fielding an ineligible player and want to be careful not to foul up this time. Everything is being checked on his registration so that he can play if needed on Saturday,” said Humphrey.
Kendal are having to bring in another keeper as regular number one Morgan Bacon was sent off on Saturday and the club is still waiting to hear whether he will start a ban at the weekend and miss the FA Cup tie.
