A leading supplier to the hospitality industry has been announced as headline sponsor for Cumbria’s new food awards.
Caterite, the long-established business based at Embleton, near Cockermouth, is supporting the independent Cumbria Food Awards.
The awards, which are due to take place at Kendal College in March 2022, will recognise the county’s superb food and drink and hospitality businesses and celebrate their achievements.
The organisers want to reward the huge efforts the sector has made to overcome the challenges of the last 18 months, while maintaining its commitment to excellence.
Chefs, restaurants, cafés, producers and newcomers will be among those to receive the sought-after awards.
Caterite, which has 800 hospitality customers in Cumbria and the Borders, responded to lockdown in March 2020 by rapidly pivoting to provide a click and collect service for the public, which received huge support from local people.
As a result, it was able to keep its supply chains intact and win new business from across the North West, North Yorkshire and North East.
Caterite has recently launched a range of premium salt-aged meat, which has been a major hit with chefs in Cumbria and UK-wide.
Caterite managing director Lorcan Byrne said: “Caterite has been supplying the hospitality industry in Cumbria for over 50 years, and it is a real honour to be the headline sponsor for the inaugural Cumbria Food Awards.
“Sponsoring the awards, we feel is our way of showing our commitment and support to the industry that we have the privilege to work with every day. An opportunity to help promote the finest chefs, operators and producers the county has to offer is something we jumped at the chance to be involved with.”
Media partner
Media partner for the awards is Cumbria Crack, the popular news website which has 1.55 million page views per month. Cumbria Crack will be the place to find all the awards news.
The event’s Patron is award-winning chef and restaurateur Simon Rogan, whose Michelin-starred restaurant, L’Enclume in Cartmel, is The Good Food Guide’s number one rated restaurant in the UK.
Cumbria Food Awards are supported by Booths, which is supplying the food for the gala three-course dinner, to be cooked by students from Kendal College.
The awards will be judged by an independent panel from Cumbria and the north, chosen for their expertise and knowledge.
