
Police are still at the scene of what is understood to be a fatal stabbing which happened in Carlisle last night.
People were asked to avoid the Carlyle’s Court area of the city while inquiries were carried out.
It is understood officers were called at around 8.50pm.
A police cordon is still in place on streets in Carlisle City centre’s historic quarter.
Investigations are underway following an incident believed to be a fatal stabbing of a male in the vicinity of a cocktail bar in Carlyle’s Court.
Several roads have been closed including Market Street, St Mary’s Gate, Fisher Street and part of Castle Street.
Flowers have already been laid near the site.
A statement last night from Cumbria Constabulary has warned of an increased police presence in the area and a statement said: “Please avoid this area to help officers and staff who are attending.
“Thank you for your assistance.”
